How to build a SaaS (2026 playbook)

The exact 30-day path we've watched hundreds of solo founders use to go from ‘I have an idea' to ‘I have paying customers' using AI builders instead of a five-person team.

Building a SaaS in 2026 is a very different job from building one in 2019. A solo founder with an AI builder, Stripe, and one distribution channel can now ship what used to take a seed round. That doesn't make it easier it moves the bottleneck from ‘can I write the code' to ‘do I know what to build and who for'.

This is the playbook we hand to every entrepreneur inside Build on Vibe. Follow it in order. Don't skip validation, don't skip billing on Day 1, and don't skip talking to strangers.

    Idea & scope · one-liner + 3-5 core actions AI builder · Lovable / Cursor / Bolt / v0 Backend · Supabase / Cloud (auth + DB + RLS) Payments · Stripe Payment Links Distribution · SEO + Product Hunt + one warm channel
The 2026 solo-founder stack. Five layers. Pick one option per layer and don't shop around until v1 is live.

    Who this is for

You have an idea usually a pain you felt at a previous job or in your own workflow and you want to build a real, paid product without hiring anyone. You're comfortable reading (not necessarily writing) code, you can commit 2-4 hours a day for a month, and you'd rather ship something ugly that works than something pretty that doesn't.

    The 2026 solo-founder stack

    One choice per layer:

    • Idea layer one-liner + 3-5 core user actions. Write them down before you open a builder.
    • AI builder Lovable (recommended for full apps), Cursor (if you already code), Bolt (for fast prototypes), v0 (UI-first).
    • Backend Supabase or Lovable Cloud. Auth, Postgres, Row-Level Security, edge functions in one place.
    • Payments Stripe. Start with Payment Links, upgrade to Checkout when you have >10 customers.
    • Distribution pick one: SEO, Product Hunt, an active subreddit, or a specific LinkedIn niche. Two channels usually means neither works.

The stack matters less than the discipline of not switching it.

The build loop that actually ships

Every session: prompt → run → observe → refine. Every day: pick the smallest slice that moves you toward the next demo. Every week: cut something from the roadmap. The founders who ship are aggressive editors, not aggressive builders.

    The 30-day SaaS ship path

    1. 1
Day 1-3 · Validate before building

Talk to 5 people who have the pain. If none of them will pay $1 to make it go away, you don't have a SaaS you have a hobby. Change the idea, not the plan.

    2. 2
      Day 4-5 · Lock scope

One-liner (12 words max) + 3-5 core actions. Everything else goes on a written WON'T list. The kill list is the deliverable.

    3. 3
Day 6-14 · Build the core loop end-to-end

Auth → one create action → one list/detail view → one settings screen. No dead buttons. Deploy on Day 10 even if it's ugly.

    4. 4
      Day 15-20 · Wire billing + email

Stripe Payment Link (or Checkout), SPF/DKIM/DMARC on your domain, transactional emails from `noreply@yourdomain`, Search Console verified.

    5. 5
      Day 21-25 · SEO + landing page

Real title/description, JSON-LD Organization + Product, sitemap.xml, one long-tail landing page targeting a keyword your 5 interviewees actually search.

    6. 6
      Day 26-30 · Ship + charge

Post on your one channel. Get 5 non-friend signups. First paying customer within 34 days is the median hit that and you're a real founder.

    FAQ

Do I need to incorporate before I have customers?

No. Get to first paying customer, then form the LLC/Ltd. Stripe supports sole-prop payouts in most countries.

Should I start free or paid?

Paid. Free tiers are a distribution strategy, not a validation strategy they make it impossible to tell whether people actually want the thing.

    What if I can't get 5 interviewees?

That is the signal. The pain isn't widespread enough or the audience isn't reachable. Change the idea before you write any code.

    Do I need a co-founder?

Not for v1. Solo is faster to iterate on scope. Bring in a co-founder once you have signal and know what role you actually need.

How much does the stack cost?

$0-$80/mo for the first 100 users: Lovable/Cursor + Supabase free tier + Stripe (fees only) + a $12 domain. Scale spend with revenue.
